Health Care and Social Services

The Ferguson Group is committed to helping local government creatively and effectively address challenges and create opportunities in the area of health and human services. TFG provides strategic counsel in working effectively with federal stakeholders to reduce regulatory burdens and to establish partnerships resulting in service delivery in a successful and compassionate manner. While many health care policy challenges stem from decisions made by state legislatures and state health and human services agencies, targeted engagement with relevant federal agencies – including the Departments of Housing and Urban Development and Veteran Affairs – have resulted in positive outcomes for citizens served by our clients.

Client Successes

  • WakeMed Health and Hospitals

TFG has successfully advocated for federal support for WakeMed Health and Hospitals (Raleigh, North Carolina), working with the North Carolina congressional delegation to secure support for the moratorium on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed Disproportionate Share Hospitals (DSH) payment regulations.  We similarly secured their support for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

  • Ryan White Program

Working on behalf of several urban counties and urbanized municipalities, TFG worked with Congress, the Administration, and several national and regional stakeholders to protect threatened funding for the Ryan White Program, which provides life-saving care, treatment, and prevention for those living with HIV and AIDS.

  • Nassau University Medical Center

On behalf of Nassau University Medical Center, TFG focused on the relocation of Veterans health care services to the NUMC campus, extending the moratorium on CMS proposed DSH regulations, graduate medical education payment limitations, SCHIP expansion, reducing Medicare physician payment cuts, and extending 340B prescription drug benefit to inpatient settings.
