Mia Barthel joins TFG as a Grants Analyst/Researcher. In this role Mia works alongside TFG partners in all aspects of the federal funding process. She specializes in identifying and securing grant funding provided by state, federal, and foundational sources for critical projects across the country. She has a particular focus on Environmental Justice.

Prior to joining TFG, Mia interned as a Sustainability Consultant where she provided carbon footprint reporting and recommendations for future sustainable practices. For example, she built frameworks for zero-waste operations and assisted in setting compliance standards. Mia also has previous experience as a Transportation and Mobility Intern where she assisted refugees in recovering, integrating and regaining control of their lives. Most recently, Mia served as the Grant Writer for the Jesse Tree of Idaho where she was responsible for the research, development and submission of over 100 grants; she wrote countless proposals and raised over $2 million in funding for eviction and homelessness prevention initiatives. Mia is based in Boise, ID with roots in Washington. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Sustainability from Boise State University.

TFG Monitoring Developments of Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs

On January 27, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under President Trump issued a memorandum titled “Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs.” The directive mandates Federal agencies to temporarily suspend the obligation and disbursement of federal financial assistance while conducting a comprehensive review of programs and awards to ensure alignment with the administration’s policies and priorities. As part of this review, agencies are also instructed to temporarily suspend the issuance of new program solicitations.
