TFG has compiled an impressive amount of experience and expertise in handling homeland security and emergency management issues. Our staff has dealt with both statewide and localized emergencies in most parts of the country. Whether the disaster is natural or man-made, TFG knows how to help the community respond and recover. We can guide local officials through the maze of programs, acronyms, and red tape to access the resources they need to bring life back to normal. We are particularly strong in developing and implementing long-term recovery strategies and programs. Communities need advocacy in Washington, D.C. that can help them know where to go for assistance long before a disaster ever strikes, and that can stand with local officials to ensure a strong response and recovery in the aftermath of cataclysmic events.

Client Successes

Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Program

TFG helps its clients understand the array of new homeland security funds available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the process local governments must go through to access them. TFG worked closely with congressional delegations, local staff and DHS to help its clients secure funding under the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Program, including $16 million for Memphis, TN; $12.7 million for Cincinnati, OH; and $15 million for Santa Ana, CA.

City of Concord, NC

Working with neighboring communities, Harrisburg and Kannapolis, the City of Concord, NC, secured a $998,160 grant for equipment under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This funding was used to upgrade communication capabilities to be compliant with the State Communications Interoperability Plan and FCC Narrow Band Mandate. The grant award allowed all of the Cities’ fire departments to purchase new radio equipment for department-owned vehicles to ensure they are in compliance with state and national standards and able to respond to emergency calls across Cabarrus County and the surrounding counties.

Broward County, FL

TFG assisted Broward County to enable a better understanding of the security needs and contracting mechanisms for ports that were owned and operated by local governments. The agency also administered the first round of Port Security grants following the 9/11 attacks. Draft program rules would have penalized owner/ operators like Broward that made majority security investments before the attacks. Because of TFG’s compelling advocacy, Broward not only received funding that cycle, but received the largest award. The County received a grant award in every subsequent funding cycle.

TFG to Participate in ICMA 2024 Annual Conference

Experts will present an election-year legislative and federal funding education session on Monday, September 23rd.

PITTSBURGH, PENN. – TFG is excited to participate in the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Annual Conference taking place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from September 20th to 25th, 2024.

As an ICMA Strategic Partner and Friend of the National Association of County Administrators (NACA), TFG continues to support local governments through federal advocacy and grant services. On Monday, September 23 at 1:30-2:30pm E.T., TFG will host an educational session titled "Riding Washington's Waves: A Playbook for Securing Federal Funding in an Election Year and Beyond." Led by Heidi Schott, TFG Grants Principal, and Zachary Israel, TFG Advocacy Principal and Manager of Legislative Affairs, the session will offer insights into navigating federal funding opportunities, particularly during the shifting landscape of an election year.

“TFG has decades of experience navigating elections and changes in administration. Our session will help participants understand how federal grant opportunities may shift and how to position their projects for success," said Heidi Schott, TFG Grants Principal.

“Our goal is to equip local leaders with the tools they need to adapt quickly and make informed decisions, ensuring they continue to access crucial federal funding opportunities as they evolve," said Zachary Israel, TFG Advocacy Principal and Manager of Legislative Affairs.
