CRAIG, CO. – Lane Dickson, Principal at The Ferguson Group (TFG), and Catherine Minerich, TFG Grants Project Manager, visited Craig, Colorado to kick off their new partnership with the City and Community of Craig, Colorado and Tri-State Generation and Transmission – a Colorado-based electric co-operative – to provide grant and advocacy services that help identify and pursue funding opportunities that will aid the community transition its economy. The city of just over 9,000 is located in northwest Colorado abutting Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. Craig Station – a three-unit coal-powered electricity generating facility – is set to close each unit in 2025, 2028, and 2030, respectively. The power plant, along with the Trapper Mine that provides the fuel and is also set to close, have been a major source of high-paying jobs and tax revenue, and TFG will add additional capacity to ongoing efforts in the community to secure opportunities for economic and community development to help replace lost employment and tax base following these retirements.
