Since our last post on February 6, President Trump has issued four more Executive Orders and Presidential Memoranda (collectively “executive actions”):
2/9
- Presidential Executive Order Providing an Order of Succession Within the Department of Justice
- Sets a line of succession for the Attorney General position.
- Presidential Executive Order on Enforcing Federal Law with Respect to Transnational Criminal Organization and Preventing International Trafficking
- Directs relevant federal agencies to strengthen enforcement of Federal law in order to thwart transnational criminal organizations and subsidiary organizations, including criminal gangs, cartels, racketeering organizations, and other groups engaged in illicit activities that present a threat to public safety and national security and that are related to, for example, the illegal smuggling and trafficking of humans, drugs (and other illicit substances), wildlife and weapons.
- Presidential Executive Order on Preventing Violence Against Federal, State, Tribal and Local Law Enforcement Officers
- Directs the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to develop a strategy to prevent violence against police officers. It also directs the agency to evaluate all grant funding programs currently administered by the Department to determine the extent to which its grant funding supports and protects law enforcement officers and provide recommendations on changes that should be made to grant funding to adequately support and protect law enforcement officers.
- Presidential Executive Order on a Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety
- Directs the Attorney General Jeff Sessions to establish a task force that will collaborate with law enforcement nationwide and design new strategies to reduce crime, particularly illegal immigration, drug trafficking and violent crime.
