On July 19, 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the applicant pool able to apply for Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans. WIFIA provides low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects investing in water infrastructure. This includes projects involving wastewater, drinking water, stormwater, and water recycling.

The FY 2017 WIFIA program received $25 million in funding, including an additional $8 million in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2017 which President Trump signed into law in May 2017. A total of $2.3 billion in loans were requested with projects ranging from $22 to $625 million. The loans will finance a total of $5.1 billion in in total water infrastructure investments. The projects would impact 20 million people across small, medium and large communities. To learn more about the selected projects, visit EPA's WIFIA website.
